We have rollover!

Samson just rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time. He lifts his bottom into the air and then leans it over to the left side while pushing up with his arms. Usually, he gets his butt leaned over, but can't figure out how to get his torso and head to follow. This time, he somehow managed to get up over his left arm & shoulder to complete the flip. Of course, after a brief celebration, I immediately put him back on his tummy to see if he could do it again - no dice... yet. But now we know it's possible. Yay, Samson!

First Camping Trip

Samson made the first of many outings to commune with nature this weekend, which also happened to include Earth Day. We drove for 3 1/2 hours to Garner State Park near Concan, Texas. The drive was not tear-free, but Samson did remain in the carseat for the entire trip and even took a couple of short naps between bouts of cheerful play and mournful cries. The weather was expected to be hot and cloudy; we did get the clouds, but the temperature dropped to chilly, so there was no swimming in the Frio River this time. Instead, we stayed near the cabin and spent quality time with the Walton-side aunts and uncles. Samson got to spend lots of time being passed among loving admirers.

Daddy's boyhood best friend just added a baby son to his family. Welcome to the world, Cameron!

This brings the total to 5 babies born from friend mommies who were expecting during our baby shower back in October:

Rowan Thomas Haney, 1/1/07
Ian Julian Wilmore Inman, 2/2/07
Samantha Jane Turner, 2/15/07
Kelly Robert Murphy, 3/29/07

One more is in the oven and we'll get to meet her in a couple of months....

Bad Rattle

Samson just learned to reach, grab, and hold toys this week, but he has a love/hate relationship with these objects. He's 4 mos, 3 wks preemie adjusted age (6 mos, 2 wks chronological age).

Found my feet!

A Visit to See the Swedish Easter Bunny's Model Home

So we made a trip to IKEA to have Samson's picture taken with the Easter Bunny. We bundled Samson up to brave the cold, wet weather (it was 37 degrees Fahrenheit in April!) and trekked out to Round Rock, expecting the possibility of long lines and hordes of unruly children in our path. Fortunately, we arrived at just the right time and were able to stroll straight up to the rabbit without even a minute of wait time. Unfortunately, little did we know that IKEA was simply luring clueless parents into their capitalist clutches with this offer of a free photo with the holiday mascot. The end result has got to be one of the worst Easter bunny pictures ever, clearly designed to feature IKEA merchandise over the beautiful children whose proud parents dressed them up for the occasion. Note the fabulous price tag attached to the sofa. Dag-nabbit, IKEA! I guess you get what you pay for...

We've got video

Mama finally found time to set up a YouTube account so that we can post some videos of Samson online. Uploading takes time, so we only have a couple posted, but this weekend we'll add more. The plan is to post at least one video per week so our long distance relatives can see and hear all of Samson's cool new behaviors and activities.

This week's post features Samson and Daddy engaged in their after 5 playtime. Enjoy!

Next week, we'll figure out how to embed the video into the blog and you'll be able to view from here.
